i have been commissioned to illustrate a children's book.
it is being released later this year (2018). the story is beautiful, and the wording struck a chord with me instantly. this is definitely one project that i feel blessed to work on.
the author has requested that i limit the art i show until the book has hit the shelves.
when i take on a client project, i always start the design process with research. this time, it involved watching videos on youtube and lots of image searching on google.

the characters were by far, the toughest part. the guidelines for each character were pretty basic, e.g. the character below was to be "a leg with a top-hat. maybe a giant hand, whiskers and a monocle"..
every time i drew this character, he looked like a slug. the children wouldn't warm to it whatsoever... but i feel like he turned out pretty well.
